  1. My grandmother said burning an oil lamp you could see a haze in the room , they had to make sheets wet from the windmill and put them over the babies crib to sift the dust out so the baby did not choke. It was a tough time , her brothers used a Fresno behind a team of mules to pull the top soil away from the barbed wire fences. The cows could otherwise walk over the fence. she said it was terrible.

  2. Kent I found using a wok is geat really big at the top for the dumplings to rise and float , hey I use Bisquick and spoon it off in the broth lol.

  3. I remember when my dog was younger he used to just be able to reach up to the counter and eat all the meat off the cutting board but only in a radius of his reach…at first I didn’t think I prepared enough….then I worked it out…🤨…😂

  4. Chicks and dumps are my favorite meal, period. Mom made ’em for as long as I can recall and now I make her recipe on a reggler basis. But mine are very different from Rollins’. First, when making the broth I add bay leaves, fresh thyme and black peppercorns. Second, dumplings are made with flour, egg, milk, salt, and shortening. Absolutely no sugar. Third, no vegetables and no cream in this dish. It is strictly a savory chicken broth, fairly thin dumplings cut rectangularly, and shredded chicken breast. There’s absolutely nothing better.
